Richie Bernard has been fishing the lakes, ponds, rivers, streams, and brooks of New Hampshire for over 50 years. He is an avid fly fisherman and an advocate of catch and release, but often keeps a few smaller trout for the breakfast frying pan.

Every spring, he volunteers to stock Atlantic Salmon fry and works cooperatively with the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the U.S. Forest Service.In the off-season, Richie teaches traditional Okinawan/Japanese Martial Arts at the House of the Samurai in Londonderry, NH, a school he founded in 1974. He is a 9th Degree, Chief Grand Master Instructor Grade Black Belt certified by the Japanese Ministry of Education. In 1994, he was inducted into the World Martial Arts Hall of Fame. He has been employed as a part-time police officer by the town of Bedford, NH since 1989 and is a former Deputy Sheriff with the Rockingham County Sheriff's Department. In 1992, he graduated from the New Hampshire Police Academy, finishing first in his class of 61 recruits.

Successfully completed the Bowhunter Safety Course, the Hunter Safety Course, and the Hunter Education Instructor Course, scoring a perfect 100% on the final exams of all three of these courses.
Registered Maine Master Guide. To join the ranks of the legendary Registered Maine Guides, Mr. Bernard had to pass ten written tests and three lengthy oral boards (reputedly one of the most demanding guide testing processes in the United States). The tests included Safety, Map and Compass, Hunting, Recreation, Firearms, Animal Observation, Fishing, Watercraft Rules and Regulations, Canoeing, and Trapping. His final grade of 93.7% is one of the highest scores ever recorded by the State of Maine's Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Guide Testing Board since the institution of formal guide testing in 1974.
